Meeting was called to order by VP Steve Waechter. Attendance taken. Minutes of the December 4, 2005 meeting reviewed and approved.
Character Counts Program in Minas: Alice Cordeiro invited Jan Brummond.
Virtual meeting with Minas: Luzia is trying to set up a video conference with Washington DC, Minas Gerais & Colorado. Possible sites were discussed.
Grant application for Iracambi: Binka was in Denver & wants a travel grant for Mervyn Tano. Board voted to have Francis inform them that he must be a member for 6 months.
After discussion, it was decided to take no action until further information is available.
International Partners Convention will be in Ouro Preto, 2007
Coffee Project: Linda reported that Stephanie Neves & Socially Conscious Coffee has a $5000 grant to improve music. Ron suggested Cid Ornellas be involved with this project. Steve & Bryan suggested Mauricio Trindade also.
Discussion of Luzia’s request for UNC jazz pianist Dana Landry to perform at the Ouro Preto Music Festival: Bryan reported that this would depend on Dana becoming a Partner and his availability.
Status on Children’s Choir: Steve reported Denver Children’s Choir may be interested.
Treasurer’s report: Betty reported $6519.94 in treasury. She has paid the $150 dues to POA. Dues for 2006 are due: $35/family, $30 single.
New Business: Dorly Piske talked about Wyoming Partners raising money by running a Soccer Camp in Laramie, Wyoming for children ages 8-16. Brazilian coaches will be furnished by the Tetra Brazil Soccer Academy. It will run July 24 through 28, 2006. Jon will check with the Greeley Recreation Dept. to see if Greeley wants to piggy-back with Laramie. Also, Dorly invited anyone interested to attend a short-course Portuguese language training May 20, June 2 & 3 in Casper.
