Eco-tourism

Initiate and develop regular eco-tourism exchanges between Colorado and Minas Gerais. Our expectations are this program will be an effective recruiting tool for new participants. Our respective states share many of the same ecological concerns.

Plan and coordinate initial trip visiting familiar ecological sites including Iracambi, Cariunas, Salao do Encontro, and additional agricultural and mining area.

Our timetable is using 2008 for planning and organizing and schedule and execute our first trip in 2009.

Colorado/Minas Partners – Betty and Roger Brown, Rhoda and Mike Rogers, Dale Beckman and Mary Davis

Soccer/Sports Exchange

Offer soccer clinics with Brazilian coaches to Colorado youth.

Ideally, have Colorado coaches visit Minas Gerais for training.

This is in the initial stages. We know there is great opportunity, but breaking into the soccer community has proven challenging. We expect to offer our first clinics in 2009. We are getting help and guidance from our Wyoming POA chapter.

Colorado  partners Roger Brown and Steve Waechter, Wyoming partners Dorly Piske and Dwight Hicks, Colorado School of Mines Athletic Department, Kersey Parks and Rec(Janna Getman), Greeley Parks and Rec (David Sanchez) POA DC (proposed sports exchange program)

Social/Human Wellness

We are exploring possibilities for collaborative, multi-person projects involving personal empowerment within the area of Social/Human Wellness

Undetermined at this time

Entire Colorado chapter membership has been asked to propose some possible projects at our next meeting June 8. Various members are also communicating with other US chapters for some suggestions.

Agriculture

While the Farmer to Farmer program is no longer active within our area, there is a huge interest in agricultural exchange activities. There are several local farmers who own farms in Brazil, Greeley is the headquarters for the largest beef producer in world – JBS Swift (a Brazilian company), and Greeley is a major player in the alternative fuel (ethanol) business in Colorado.

Identify, recruit, and collaborate with the agriculture community including individuals and companies who have an interest in learning about and possibly working with Brazilian agricultural enterprises.

Specifics are yet undefined but the logical focus will be on the beef sector and ethanol and possibly wine.

Colorado partner Steve Waechter, Platte Valley Schools Vocational Agriculture program, JBS Swift, Socially Conscious Coffee, Marcy Livestock Services, Great Western Ethanol, Iracambi, other possible Brazilian collaborators- EPAMIG/Baldonedo Napoleao and Joao Francisco Meira
